2. the class of objects subject to aesthetic criteria; works of art collectively, as paintings, sculpture, or drawings:
a museum of art; an art collection.
________________________________________________________
on the second definition, things get more specific. i love that, by nature, defining anything in the world means not using negatives (see what i did? subtle!).
when you describe what something is, you don't compare it to what it's not. like my frog isn't an apple or a squirrel. so the words are happy, they don't judge and give you what you need to make sense of them. (this leads me to think a thesaurus is so much fun to dig through. ah, the possibilities. + to do: go to the library and study up!)
we're on objects at this point, and the school must be in session because classes just formed! the rest goes to name very traditional forms of art. i'd expand on that to say that, i think at least nowadays, each area of art can cover so much ground, it would be silly not to include them in our purpose.
let's brainstorm, shall we?
my favorites include installations, exhibitions (and, evidently, the art within them, whichever form it may take), industrial design, object-oriented design, manufacturing, all that geeky stuff that gets made into real experiences. so we're not really out of the woods and into the super digital side of art yet. we've still got a bit to go
definition still via my favorite thesaurus on a sunday. (lucky me!)
links read in reference:
. it wasn't until the 1960's that the term art installation was added
. my dear website doesn't give definitions to information art, but that does lead us to wikipedia. cool.
. then designing an object. geeky and generally useful. or at least fun. still an artform!
good week goal - unlocked!

kelli anderson is SO fantastic, it really deserves a case study, not a mention. great designer & member of adobe creative residency, i jump for joy every time she updates her blog with another amazing project.
she experiments, researches, comes up with innovative products and has such great aesthetic sense. see my jealousy seeping in just a bit?

i may or may not be saying that any article referencing fight club has a good point or two. this one has 6, and i'm not even halfway through it.
it also starts off with what i found to be a pretty cool exercise - listing 5 impressive things about yourself. not who you are, but what you can do. cheesy, but different.

i'm not generally one to be impressed by video-experiment-type-things, but i feel like canon australia have hit a really good streak with the Lab.
photography will always be a soft spot. this just goes to show the human element behind it.

a blog with an unusual format. and even more lovely, sort of abstract looking interiors. refreshing sh*t! annaleena and her shop are both smart, beautifully designed and styled, always a pleasure.
i'd love to analyze the style that she grew. stockholm and good branding. what more is there to say?

opinion pieces from smart humans. this guy right here is my newest read.
i admire his dedication and ability to just start up sites that solve a problem.
he talks about that and many other struggles based on good insights, so what's not to love?

a recently released digital library is like an amazing gift. this one, from the NY public library, is dreamy. i always find myself looking for flowers, old illustrations or publications, stories, all of that stuff i admire in brick and mortar libraries so rarely.
so much history is a beautiful thing.

art [ahrt] noun word origin
1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.
________________________________________________________
i like the first definition. it has good vibes, it’s modest but powerful at the same time and it does not apologise. i usually prefer smaller sentences, so maybe i should break it down.
quality is in focus first, even before a product is ever mentioned. it expresses something of a different realm (or at least that’s how i like to tie the next two attributes listed) and, all in all, it all functions under a whole mess of aesthetic principles. the mess, really, should be seen as a good thing. no worries about perfection, even if it’s something we strive to achieve.
next it brings up beauty, which is so subjective it hurts. appealing is easy, since it calls out to us and solves a need or desire. which is why we give it more than ordinary significance more often than not.
that’s my take on it so far. each part of art’s first definition ‘by the book’ opens one or more gates. a bit confusing, but that’s why i enjoy it and what makes me keep exploring.

since it's not enough to start a pinterest board, i'll try my keyboard at regularly writing about a few pieces that inspire me, how i think they might have been set up and.. see where it takes me.
sine there's little point in just analysing the images of the internet, the most important component of this exercise is getting down and dirty and experimenting myself. let's see how that rolls.

since more than a few days have passed since, i've still not formulated my personal take on these concepts. but i have gathered, read and assimilated some resources that don't go the usual route of "this year everything will magically change with this list of goals to be checked off".. or something to that effect.
__
+ any wish or dream for the new year should start off with getting specific
+ new words could help right? this one rolls off the tongue and it rolled into my inbox the other day: unfuckwithable.
+ if i still have to set goals, as cheesy as it sounds, i might as well make them light and fun. an old read, but some things don't have an expiry date. which makes them even better.
__
these are also great resource sites, written with much insight and passion. still a happy subscriber to all of the blogs / businesses featured.

visuell is a pretty great romanian blog by the talented lady sinziana pop.
her aesthetics are, i think, spot on. she's also warm & inviting, so her posts are informative and so easy to digest! she hunts down awesome products, imagines herself living and breathing beautiful designs and puts it all on a tray, ready to be served.
one of my bloglovin' joys :)
also, how have i missed the shop portion of the site until now?! it's filled with smart, awesome designer objects. just what i like! + congratulations for the launch, fun little mood video here

discovering objects. +
because of their functionality and design / idea, not just because. i like rethinking objects and admire people that constantly do it and have a smart angle to it.
here's an idea in the category of why didn't i think of it first.
combining digital & objects is hugely satisfactory, kind of like a great big print of art. the quality is also a massive plus.
bonus point: geeky and proud - learning how to make your own glitch. supporting the artist / maker.

the credits go to DLF, for being cool ladies with awesome talents.
the branch is the most natural art bit i can think of. kind of like an installation, but even more fluid and changeable.
(would go with high ceilings and bright rooms. or moody spaces)
bonus point: the cat can't nibble at it.
