i like the first definition. it has good vibes, it’s modest but powerful at the same time and it does not apologise. i usually prefer smaller sentences, so maybe i should break it down.
quality is in focus first, even before a product is ever mentioned. it expresses something of a different realm (or at least that’s how i like to tie the next two attributes listed) and, all in all, it all functions under a whole mess of aesthetic principles. the mess, really, should be seen as a good thing. no worries about perfection, even if it’s something we strive to achieve.
next it brings up beauty, which is so subjective it hurts. appealing is easy, since it calls out to us and solves a need or desire. which is why we give it more than ordinary significance more often than not.
that’s my take on it so far. each part of art’s first definition ‘by the book’ opens one or more gates. a bit confusing, but that’s why i enjoy it and what makes me keep exploring.
